- Booking an appointment online, either via the NHS App or the Patient Access app on your smartphone. (Please note you will need to register for this access if you have not already. If you require support with this, please contact the surgery or visit this help page.
Suttons Wharf Health Centre employs a diverse team of Healthcare Professionals to best help you manage your health.
There are many ways to seek advice from a Healthcare Professional at Suttons Wharf Health Centre – please read the below to see which is most appropriate for you.
Depending on your needs and preference, there are multiple methods of booking an appointment with us.
- Online consultations: Available daily from 8.00am. This service closes for submissions when we have reached a safe capacity for our clinicians to process. Online consultations will be assessed and the most appropriate follow-up will be done – this may or may not be an appointment.
- Telephone Consultations: bookable via Patient Access App or NHS App. These are available to book in advance online and more slots are added daily. Please note practice staff are unable to book these for patients; patients must book these.
- GP face to face appointments: booked by contacting administrator at Suttons Wharf Health Centre or by Patient Access App or NHS App.
- Local GP Hub appointments: Additional appointments are provided in the evenings from 6.30pm or on Saturdays from 9.00am at local Hubs. These include GP, HCA, Pharmacist and Advance Nurse Practitioner appointments. Some of these are at Suttons Wharf Health Centre, and others are at partner practices in the neighbourhood.
- Community Pharmacist appointments. These are available to be booked directly via Pharmacist or via our administrators at Suttons Wharf Health Centre. These are appointments for Minor Ailments such as sore throat, urinary tract infections, minor sprains, etc.
- In-house Pharmacist appointments: Available for any medication issue or certain long term condition reviews and they are booked via our admin team at Suttons Wharf.

Can another Healthcare Professional help?
Do you need to see the GP?
Sometimes the GP is not the most appropriate Healthcare Professional to deal with your ailment. Please see the information on see a Doctor or Healthcare Professional, which might help you decide whether a GP appointment is truly necessary or whether it might be better for you to see a Pharmacist, Optician, Dentist or other Healthcare Professional. You can even self-refer for some services without seeing your GP.
For real life-threatening emergencies such as those below – RING 999
- Chest pain (suspected heart attack)
- Suspected stroke
- Suspected meningitis
- Anaphylactic shock (severe allergy)
- Heavy bleeding or deep lacerations
- Fluctuating levels of consciousness or completely unconscious
- Difficulty breathing or stopped breathing with a change in colour
- New seizure, fit or uncontrollable shaking
For immediately serious conditions such as the following, GO TO Emergency Department (A&E) IMMEDIATELY
- A fever and lethargic (drowsy) child
- A feverish and floppy (unresponsive) infant
- Difficulty breathing
- Sudden, severe abdominal pain
- Accidental or intentional overdose of medication
- Trauma (including falls) and possible broken bones or road traffic accident

If you cannot attend an appointment for any reason please inform us as soon as possible in order for us to give the slot to someone else. You can use our texting service to cancel using your mobile phone. When you receive your text reminder simply text back “CANCEL” and we will do the rest. If you fail to attend your appointment without letting us know you will run the risk of being removed from the practice.
If you are not able to attend your appointment please let us know in time so that the time can be used for someone else. If you are late for an appointment you may be asked to re-book.

Practice Nurses
In a number of cases it might be worth considering an appointment with a practice nurse rather than a doctor. Practice nurses are qualified to deal with many ailments and you may be seen more quickly.

Can I bring someone to accompany me to the Appointment?
We are generally very happy for patients to bring with them a carer, relative or even a friend. This often helps, particularly when they know you well and it allows them to tell us any observations they would make about you, which can help us in undertaking our assessment. Ultimately this will lead us more quickly to make an accurate diagnosis and therefore help you more.
Also, having someone with you means they can prompt you to ask questions that you may have forgotten, and after the appointment they can help in reminding you what was discussed.
Occasionally we might ask for them to leave but this would be unusual.
If you require interpretation services please contact us in advance of you appointment and we will arrange this.
If you have a suspected infectious disease
Please inform reception if you suspect an infectious disease, as this will enable us to deal with it appropriately during your visit to protect you, other patients and staff.
Giving Consent for Treatment
You have the right to accept or refuse treatment that is offered to you, and not to be given any physical examination or treatment unless you have given valid consent. If you do not have the capacity to do so, consent must be obtained from a person legally able to act on your behalf, or the treatment must be in your best interests.
Your valid consent (agreement to the course of action) is needed for the treatment that’s offered to you before any physical examinations or treatment can be given. If you haven’t given your consent, you can accept or refuse treatment that’s offered to you.
It’s important to be involved in decisions about your treatment and to be given information to help you choose the right treatment. When making treatment choices, you’ll often discuss the options with your doctor or another healthcare professional.

- Do let us know if more than one person in the family needs to be seen as each appointment will require a separate booking
- Appointments are allocated in ten minutes slots. On rare occasions, if deemed necessary by clinical indication or communication needs, a longer appointment may be offered.
- It is Practice Policy to allow patients to choose whichever Doctor they wish to attend in the Practice. However this may not always be possible, especially in respect of urgent appointments.
